550 Goldstream – M’akola Housing Society
Scansa Construction was awarded, as general contractor, new construction of a four-story mixed-use building. This building was made up of 36 residential affordable housing units and a ground level commercial space occupied by the M’akola Housing Society & M’akola Development Services head offices. Construction on the building, which is a mixture of Concrete and wood framing with covered parking, began in February of 2015.
The new development, located at 550 Goldstream Avenue in Langford, BC, replaced 5 existing townhouses on the property. The building has a gross floor area of approximately 4,392 square meters.
Scansa Construction were also awarded, as a subcontractor, the cast-in-place concrete and civil works for the project. Subcontractors were hired to complete the wood framing, building envelope, drywall, painting, vinyl flooring, and a passenger elevator. Electrical & mechanical systems including sprinklers, an emergency generator, and water booster pumps to service the upper existing townhouses were also incorporated.
Other technologies included access & lighting controls and CCTV cameras. Once all work was completed Irrigation and landscaping, including a rain garden, was added to boulevard and surrounding property.
