Scansa Construction was the general contractor for the Belmont Market. Belmont Market is a mixed-use development and the Victor Chen Memorial Park in the heart of Langford; Scansa Construction was the civil general contractor for the project. The project involved the supply and install of all underground utilities and services. This included drainage, sanitary sewer, water, hydro, electrical and street lighting. Scansa was also responsible for the roadworks and finishing of the project including asphalt paving, curbs and sidewalks and landscaping.
Positive Aspects of the Project:
The most positive aspect from the Belmont Market project was the relationship developed with the owner, Crombie REIT. Scansa Construction and Crombie REIT developed a strong relationship during the course of construction and this made for a positive, mutually beneficial environment which contributed to the project being completed on time and on budget.
Challenges Faced on the Project:
A challenge faced on the Belmont Market project was the staggered start of various individual building projects within the project footprint. As these projects commenced, the available workspace and lay down became increasingly limited. Ongoing coordination with building subtrades and future tenants was necessary for successful completion of the project.
