CRD Residual Treatment Facility Project

This Design -Build - Project required extensive detailed planning in conjunction with a well executed phased construction plan.  Over 10,000 m3 of unsuitable material was removed down to bedrock. Structural fill was placed and compacted in closely monitored, detailed lifts to the underside of structure foundations.  All the drilled and blasted rock was crushed onsite and utilized for structural backfill backfill and bedding materials for the project.  Over 60,000m3 of 75mm MOTI Bridge End Fill, and 8,000 m3 of 25mm MOTI IGB were utilized on the project, thus resulting in reduced offsite trucking and import granular requirements.

The site is within an environmentally sensitive area which required careful protection of the adjacent natural areas and vigilant monitoring of offsite water discharge.

The site was almost entirely taken up with various buildings and process facility structures.  Significant planning and coordination were required to ensure that multiple ongoing activities could proceed simultaneously. Numerous schedule benchmarks had to be achieved to allow the various structures to progress at individual rates.

The Project involved multiple crews working in separate areas to meet the schedule.  Scansa’s Site Supervision and Management team worked closely with MRBJV staff, suppliers, and other Subcontractors working on the site to ensure coordination of the various operations and completion of the tasks within the construction schedule.
